He saw that the questioner was serious, so he did a very strange thing. The professor dug into his wallet and produced a chunk of glass. Glass! But it wasn't just any old piece of glass, but a fragment of a broken mirror that he had been hauling around for many years, but why?
Well, he was one of those unfortunate individuals who had endured the horrors of war as a small boy. One day while shuffling down the road he saw something glinting in the sun. For a child not distracted by video games or lesser toys this caught his attention, so squatted down to take a closer look. Lo and behold there was a shattered mirror laying there, and he soon found a piece the size of a quarter to experiment with.
Have you ever discovered what you could do with a mirror? Or even a broken one? It helped him to reflect light into the neatest places: dark holes, crevices, you name it. But that wasn't the end of it. As the years rolled on, it before even more significant.
